Used Elevators

Home elevators give people more freedom to get about their homes. They offer more mobility to those who have problems climbing stairs and otherwise getting from one floor of the home to another. Purchasing home elevators however can often be expensive. Medicare and insurance currently do not pay for residential lifts of any type and many people simply cannot afford to have a new elevator installed in their homes. Used elevators provide these people with the mobility that they need at a much lower cost than purchasing new.

Where to Find Used Elevators

You can look online at various places for used elevators. If you know the specific type of elevator that you want you can search for retailers that offer returned or otherwise used models. If you find that your disability is only a temporary condition then you may feel that purchasing a new elevator will be a waste of money. After your recovery you will likely no longer need the residential lift. This is a time when purchasing a used elevator from a reputable dealer makes perfect sense. However, you have to ensure that you are getting the product from a trustworthy source. There are always those out there who would like nothing more than to take your money and provide you with a used product that is no longer working or is not safe to use. Be certain that you are dealing with only reputable dealers when purchasing used elevators.

Types of Elevators

There are many different types of residential lifts. Stair lifts fit on the wall beside your stairwell and provide a chair to move you up and down the stairs. Elevators come in various different movements including hydraulic, pneumatic and vacuum. When choosing used elevators you should first determine what specific type of elevator is best for your needs. Hydraulic elevators are normally the most expensive. If you are planning to purchase this type then finding a used model that is still in good working order can cut thousands of dollars off of your purchase price.

Home Elevator Installation

Normally when you purchase a new elevator for your home the company that you purchase from will provide installation. They will even come in and make the appropriate measurements in many cases. If you are purchasing used elevators then you may need to hire someone to install the elevator for you. Most contractors can handle this task. There are also many companies that sell used elevators who will also do the installation. You should be sure to check with the company to see if installation is provided or if you will need to hire someone to handle that task. Depending on the type of elevator that you purchase you may be able to do some of the installation yourself. Again, it is important that you check with the company and inquire about installation specifics. Find out what space is required for the elevator and ensure that you have the appropriate space available or make arrangements with a contractor to provide you with the renovations needed to give you the space that you need.
